For the first time in Mongolia, the geographical indication of Uvs Seabuckthorn has been registered in the European Union

Uvs sea buckthorn's geographical indication is registered in the European Union. In November 2019, the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI) and the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UCCI) intensified their efforts to register Uvs sea buckthorn geographical indications in the European Union.

The Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI) has worked with the private sector to test the Uvs sea buckthorn and revise documents.

The registration of Uvs sea buckthorn geographical indications in the European Union will help protect the geographical indications of “Uvs sea buckthorn” in the EU member states and prevent and stop the sale of counterfeit products. It also has the advantage of increasing the income of local sea buckthorn growers and producers, supporting sustainable business, maintaining the unique taste and quality due to the environment and climate, creating a new tourism channel and using quality and standard products for consumers.

In 2016, the registration of Uvs sea buckthorn geographical indications in the European Union was started with the support of the Intellectual Property Office, the Uvs Sea buckthorn geographical indications association, and the French Embassy. From 2019, the SEQUA project team of the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Uvs Sea buckthorn producers' association, and the German Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry will continue to work together and achieve the above results.
