Social strikes and ownerless equipment demonstrations will sit on Sukhbaatar square
International Workers' Day also known as Workers day or Labour day which is celebrated around the world on May 1st. On May 1st, 1886, factories in the United States and Canada organized the first mass demonstration claiming eight-hours of working a day.
After 134 years, the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI) proclaimed "Workplace Day" on 1st of May, 2020, and encouraged the private sector and government to work together to address the COVID 19 virus-induced economic crisis. The demonstrations will take place online, and there will be a "Demonstration of Ownerless Equipments" at Sukhbaatar Square. Although the demonstration was planned to be held at the Sukhbaatar square, unfortunately the government did not approve the official request. Hence, the demonstration took a place in front of Sport’s Center.
The Business owners involved in the e-demonstration will declare a "Picket" from 9:30am to 10:15am at their workplaces on May 1st. You can participate in any way, such as going LIVE on your business problems, posting a picture or slogan on your official website or Facebook account.
On the same day, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., the "Ownerless Equipment Demonstration" at Sukhbaatar Square will include empty seats, sewing machines, laptops, construction caps, work vests, hammers and nails that will yell out the voices of those who laid off due to COVID-19 circumstances and warning the government and community that, unless drastic measures are taken to boost the economy and save jobs, the number of ownerless instruments will begin to grow.
The main purpose of this online demonstration is:
- THE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTORS MUST OVERCOME THE ECONOMIC DOWNTURN TOGETHER.
- ESTABLISHING THE TEMPORARY COMMITTEE TO DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT THE ECONOMIC INTESIFYING PLAN IMMIDIATELY.
- PUBLIC SECTOR, ENTERPRISES AND PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATIONS NEED TO UNITE.
The MNCCI's proposal of intensifying the economy will be forwarded to the Secretary-General of all parties that have declared their candidacy for the 2020 election. According to the research, Mongolia's economy could double by 2025 if the parties place this proposal on their platform.
More than 500 members of the MNCCI and non-members have now expressed their intention to join the online demonstration and are offering tools for the demonstration.
